Schadenfreude

Have you ever been cut off in traffic and then later on down the road you see the car who cut you off pulled over by a cop? Congratulations, you know exactly what Schadenfreude feels like.

I love this word because it’s exquisitely specific. It’s not often that I experience this emotion, but when I do it’s such a unique feeling that it deserves its own word.

Now I can use this word whenever I see Ohio State lose in football.

Nothing against the fine and lovely people of Ohio. My parents are actually living there right now. But I spent my early childhood in Michigan. Plus there’s something about insisting that the name of your university starts with the word “The” that just seems beyond pretentious, which is another good word for you.

Also, this is awesome.
